I think she got the idea from Matt Baldwin (at www.defectiveyeti.com ), one of our favorite bloggers, who uses nicknames for his wife and son when he mentions them in his posts. The initial idea was to be able to write about family members and be at least somewhat respectful of their privacy, though I don't know that anything is really private once it shows up on the internet. The Maker got his nickname because he is forever engaged in different creative projects: building, drawing, etc. The Ice got his because he has always been the most laid back and relaxed of the three.
